Terry McLean is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of SageSure, where he oversees operations and guides the strategic vision of the organization. Terry brings extensive knowledge and experience in insurance and finance to his role. Prior to founding SageSure, he worked for RenaissanceRe’s Corporate Risk Management Group. He previously held roles as Chief Operating Officer of a Florida homeowners insurance company and Financial Institutions investment banking professional with DLJ and UBS. Terry graduated from the Management & Technology Program at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a BAS in Engineering and a BSE from The Wharton School with concentrations in Computer Science, Finance and Actuarial Science.

As Chief Underwriting Officer, Brooks Clark is responsible for driving products, pricing and underwriting requirements for SageSure programs. Brooks oversees the company’s actuarial, product development, and underwriting operations. Before joining the company in 2008, he served as Senior Vice President at Travelers Property Casualty, where he was responsible for product management for the personal lines business nationally. Brooks began his career at Aetna and spent his early years in various actuarial and underwriting capacities. More recently, he was a consultant to the P&C industry, focused on building sophisticated underwriting and pricing programs for clients that included the use of predictive modeling. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Chief Technology and Innovation Officer Paul VanderMarck’s mission is to keep SageSure’s proprietary technology platform on the cutting edge of the industry. Paul and his team are responsible for identifying and executing on innovation opportunities and adopting new technologies to continue to advance the user experience for SageSure’s agents and policyholders. Previously, Paul was a managing director at boutique investment bank Financial Technology Partners, where he worked with a wide range of high-growth businesses across the insurtech landscape on capital raising and mergers and acquisitions. He previously spent 25 years as Chief Product Officer and as a member of the leadership team that grew Risk Management Solutions (RMS) from a startup into a $300 million revenue business while creating an entirely new market and transforming the way that the global insurance industry manages catastrophe risk. Paul also served for 10 years as a board member and chairman of Build Change, a non-profit social enterprise that works to improve construction practices for homes and schools in catastrophe-prone developing countries. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in structural engineering, both from Stanford University.

As SageSure’s Chief Administrative Officer, Lisa Bernstein leads our human resources, office operations, legal and administrative functions. In her role, she provides invaluable expertise and strategic leadership for critical business operations and elevates and enhances the firm’s overall effectiveness to deliver on its business strategy. Lisa began her career as an employment attorney before transitioning to spearhead best-in-class HR functions for two high-growth organizations. Most recently, Lisa was a senior partner and global head of human capital and administration for Apollo Global Management. During her time there, she built the human resources department from the ground up and helped the firm grow from a small private equity shop to a publicly-traded, global alternative asset manager. Lisa has a BA from the University of Michigan and received her JD from Fordham University School of Law. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of private telecommunications company Intrado, Vice Chair of the Board of NYC education nonprofit Change For Kids as well as an advisory board member of Declare, a for-profit global organization that supports women in their professional careers.

As President of Commercial Insurance, Victor dos Santos is responsible for leading SageSure’s commercial lines. He is charged with developing and pricing products as he works with the rest of the management team to grow the business. Victor has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, with roles ranging from actuarial to finance, product management and business unit leadership. Before joining SageSure in 2018, he served as Vice President and Actuary of Business Insurance at Travelers Insurance, where he led the pricing strategy and product filings for $11 billion of products across various types of business insurance. Victor graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mathematics and minors in psychology and economics. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

As Chief Accounting Officer, Jason Jacobs leads our corporate accounting, financial reporting and financial controls functions. Jason brings a wealth of expertise with over 20 years of experience in public accounting, insurance and financial services for public and private companies. Before joining SageSure in 2021, he served as Head of Accounting Policy at AIG and prior to that as an Audit Partner in financial services with Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, a public accounting firm. Jason is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration-Accounting from Bloomsburg University.

As Chief Marketing Officer, Tammy Nelson is responsible for marketing and sales at SageSure Insurance Managers. Before joining SageSure in 2016, she was Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Customer Experience Officer at American Modern Insurance Group, part of Munich Re. While at American Modern, she was responsible for marketing, communications, customer experience and innovation/digital. Prior to that, Tammy spent the majority of her career leading marketing and sales for Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance. She has a Master of Business Administration degree from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, and a bachelor’s degree in advertising and economics from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. She has also earned her Certified Customer Experience Professional (CCXP) designation.

As Chief Claims Officer, Cat has built out our claims function to manage the end-to-end claims lifecycle for some of our partners, while collaborating with other carrier partners to implement innovative analytics, technology and claims handling practices. Cat most recently served as Chief Claims Officer for Tower Hill Insurance Group and her prior experience includes multiple claims leadership roles at USAA. Cat holds a bachelor’s degree in international politics and Arabic from Georgetown, a master’s in risk management and insurance from Florida State University and the CPCU designation.

As Chief Operating Officer of SageSure, Colin is responsible for identifying and executing strategies for the company’s continued growth. He oversees strategic planning, financial planning, and corporate development efforts – including raising over $800 million of capital for SageSure from institutional investors. Prior to SageSure, he worked in investment banking at Banc of America Securities and Atlantic-Pacific Capital. Colin served as the Executive Director of the NYC nonprofit Change for Kids, and currently serves on the Boards of Streetwise Partners and the Congregational Church of New Canaan. He has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Virginia.

As Vice President of Engineering, Shaun focuses on leading the Software Engineering team, enhancing the buying experience for our customers and scaling our platform as our business continues to grow. Shaun brings more than 20 years of software experience to SageSure. Prior to joining the team, he led the platform engineering team at LendingClub, where he played a key role in scaling the engineering practice as the business grew. He was also previously a technical lead at BlackRock, where he designed and built applications for traders and portfolio managers on the trading research team.

Neill Arendt brings over a decade of insurance industry expertise to his role as Associate Vice President of Program Operations. Previously, Neill worked in wholesale brokerage as an analyst with Allstate and in insurance distribution as a management consultant at Accenture. That combination of industry and consulting experience make him perfectly suited to drive scale at SageSure while simultaneously supporting the delivery of new products and product enhancements. Neill joined the team in 2018 and has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Management Information Systems from Illinois State University.

Her wide-ranging knowledge, amassed over more than 30 years with The Hartford, also includes underwriting and book management. Sandra joined SageSure in 2020 and leads the homeowners division in pioneering new ways to help customers protect their American Dream. She has an Associate Degree in Underwriting from the Insurance Institute and holds two U.S. patents for innovative coverages.

Wes joined our team in 2021, having spent the prior two decades working within various claims environments with domestic international carriers. As Vice President of Claims Operations, Wes has been an instrumental contributor to the creation and management of our property adjusting department, leading the Claims Operations, Field Operations, Claim Services, and Claims Litigation teams. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Northern Colorado and is pursuing a master’s degree in computer information systems from Colorado State University. Wes holds both a CPCU and FLMI designation.

Doug Brekke has more than two decades of experience in the commercial insurance underwriting space, including home office and field management roles within captive and independent agency carrier distribution models. Most recently, Doug was responsible for leading Travelers’ small commercial underwriting centers in the Western US. As Vice President of Commercial Insurance Underwriting and Product, Doug guides the expansion of SageSure commercial business within new and existing states, building product forms, coverages and filings, and developing and managing underwriting guidelines and procedures. Doug earned a Bachelor of Science in Humanities and Business Management from Woodbury University and holds multiple professional insurance designations.

Before joining SageSure in 2008, Lisa was the Treasury and Investment Manager at Citizens Property and Casualty Insurance Company, where she oversaw 10 investment managers and $3 billion in assets. Lisa has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Flagler College.

As Vice President of Commercial Actuarial, Greg is responsible for the development and integration of all pricing initiatives related to commercial products with primary focus on the creation of proprietary catastrophe rating plans. Greg brings over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, specializing in product development, analytics, pricing tools and operating system integration. Prior to joining Sage Sure in 2019, he served as Second Vice President of Commercial Pricing at Travelers Insurance and lead the development and integration of multi-line benchmark analytic tools used by middle market field business units to make point of sale pricing decisions. Greg holds a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from Bryant University and is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

As Associate Vice President of Program Operations, Sean is responsible for planning, enablement, and cross-functional change management for programs at SageSure. His team is focused on driving improvements to speed to market, scalability, and quality across SageSure’s product portfolio. Sean joined SageSure in 2021 as Sr. Director of Program Delivery and has more than 15 years of experience in insurance, financial services, and pharma with Accenture, KPMG, and Deloitte. He earned undergraduate degrees in finance, accounting, and operations management at The Ohio State University with graduate work in predictive analytics at Northwestern University.

As part of the Innovation group, Palak built the team responsible for all predictive modeling and decision analytics needs outside of traditional product development. She has a master’s degree in computer science and brings more than a decade of leadership experience in software development, data science and engineering to her role as Vice President of Data Science. Prior to joining SageSure, Palak led data science, analytics, and data engineering teams for Bombora, MyFitnessPal, Under Armour, and LendingClub.

In this role, he recruits, trains and manages underwriters with emphases on deep underwriting and customer service experience. Prior to joining SageSure, Art was Director of Operations, Underwriting and Service for Travelers in New Jersey. Prior to the merger of Travelers and Aetna, he held various managerial positions with Aetna in both Personal and Commercial Lines at the Field and Home Office level. He has over 30 years of diversified insurance experience and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University.

As VP Homeowners Pricing Actuary, Alan Lange oversees the actuarial pricing team responsible for all of SageSure’s existing homeowners products. Alan has over 30 years of insurance experience in various positions. He spent the first part of his career at Travelers and Orion Capital, where he held several actuarial roles. For the past 20 years, he has worked almost exclusively in personal property and catastrophe risk management. Alan is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Whitman College and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

He brings a wealth of insurance experience as an actuarial analyst from insurance companies such as National Life in Vermont and Home Insurance Company in New York. As Senior Vice President of Special Projects, Corey Neal provides ongoing support to stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration, alignment of priorities, and strategic objectives. His responsibilities extend to regulatory affairs and other critical initiatives. Corey’s journey with SageSure began in 2006; however, in 2018, he briefly stepped away to serve as the Executive Director for the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association. In May 2024, Corey returned to SageSure, bringing his wealth of knowledge and expertise. Corey has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and in finance, both from Florida State University. Corey passed the Florida CPA examination in 1997.

As Vice President and Chief Pricing Actuary, Cong To is responsible for pricing, product management, risk management, and data analytics. He joined the company in the Cheshire, Conn. location in 2016. With 14 years of experience as an actuary and consultant, some of his many accomplishments include a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut and being a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. He brings extensive knowledge from his previous work at leading insurance companies like AIG, as the global property portfolio actuary in consumer lines and Ernst & Young, as an actuarial consultant. His ability to analyze data and assess risk along with his expertise in probability, economics, and business, makes him a value add to the company.

As Vice President of Policy Services, Tom Wixted is responsible for leading our service center operations including all customer service, policy processing, billing and Agent Portal system support business activities. An industry veteran, Mr. Wixted has more than 20 years of insurance experience. Prior to SageSure, he worked at Nationwide for 16 years in various areas including customer service, underwriting, direct sales and training. For the final two years of his tenure at Nationwide, Mr. Wixted was accountable for one of four inbound call centers that provide customer service to Nationwide’s policyholders and agents. He served as a leader to 14 supervisors and 240 representatives that handled approximately 1.4 million inbound calls annually at the center’s peak staffing. He has his MBA from Lynchburg College and a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University.

Awarded 8 patents for risk scoring, reconfigurable quoting, and risk evaluation systems by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), McLean brings more than 20 years’ knowledge and experience in insurance and finance to his current role with SageSure, one of the largest managing general underwriters focused on catastrophe-exposed markets. Prior to founding SageSure in 2009, McLean held senior roles for RenaissanceRe’s Corporate Risk Management Group and American Superior Insurance Company. McLean holds a B.A.S. in engineering and a B.S. in economics from The Wharton School with concentrations in computer science, finance, and actuarial science.

Tim Graff brings more than 40 years of insurance industry experience to his role as the Executive Vice President of Amwins Access Division, where he oversees Amwins Digital E&S Homeowners business and Trident Claims Management, an affiliated homeowner specialty TPA. Previously, Graff held senior roles at Aon, including in the Middle East and South East Asia, before bringing his talents to RenaissanceRe’s primary US insurance business. For the past 20 years, he has started and operated multiple captive and segregated cell reinsurance entities in both Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. In addition to serving on SageSure’s Board of Managers, he holds a board position with American Pet Insurance Company, a wholly owned mono-line pet insurance subsidiary of Trupanion Inc., where he has held multiple roles for over 15 years and helped take the company public in 2014.

Peter Hearn is the former Vice Chair of Marsh McLennan and Chief Executive Officer of Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC. Throughout nearly four decades in the reinsurance industry, Peter has served in a number of senior leadership roles. Before joining Guy Carpenter, he was Global Chairman of Willis Re from March 2011 to June 2015. Prior to that, Peter served as the company’s Global CEO from February 2005 to March 2011, during which time he was also a member of the Willis Group Executive Committee. Peter joined Willis Re as a Senior Vice President in January 1994 to establish and lead its Philadelphia office. He was appointed Eastern Regional Manager in October 1994 and Executive Vice President in 1997. In 1999, Peter was named one of three global/national production leaders; in 2000, he assumed overall responsibility for directing new business production efforts for global, national, and regional property/casualty business. In 2002, he became President of Willis Re. Peter holds a BA in history and political science from Lake Forest College.

Prior to joining Flexpoint Ford in 2010, Hood worked in the Financial Institutions Group at Wachovia Securities, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions and capital raising advisory assignments. In addition to serving on SageSure’s Board of Managers, he holds board positions with TigerRisk Partners, MobilityWorks, Propel Insurance, and Purchasing Power. Hood received an A.B. from Harvard College and an M.B.A. with honors from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Dave Pirrung joined IAT Insurance Group in 2002 as the Sr. Vice President/Treasurer before being promoted to Chief Financial Officer just three years later. As CFO, Dave is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting, treasury and investment management, regulatory compliance and actuarial functions of IAT. He began his career as an auditor at Ernst & Young, and soon climbed through the ranks while gaining valuable experience in the property and casualty insurance practice.

Colin served as the Executive Director of the NYC nonprofit Change for Kids, and currently serves on the Boards of Streetwise Partners and the Congregational Church of New Canaan. He has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Virginia.

Chief Technology and Innovation Officer Paul VanderMarck’s mission is to keep SageSure’s proprietary technology platform on the cutting edge of the industry. Paul and his team are responsible for identifying and executing on innovation opportunities and adopting new technologies to continue to advance the user experience for SageSure’s agents and policyholders. Previously, Paul was a managing director at boutique investment bank Financial Technology Partners, where he worked with a wide range of high-growth businesses across the insurtech landscape on capital raising and mergers and acquisitions. He previously spent 25 years as Chief Product Officer and as a member of the leadership team that grew Risk Management Solutions (RMS) from a startup into a $300 million revenue business while creating an entirely new market and transforming the way that the global insurance industry manages catastrophe risk. Paul also served for 10 years as a board member and chairman of Build Change, a non-profit social enterprise that works to improve construction practices for homes and schools in catastrophe-prone developing countries. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in structural engineering, both from Stanford University.
